Things I Love About My Culture

I love my culture and what it offers to our society. I'm an African American Woman who endured and accomplished alot. Some of the things I've accomplished were because of trailblazers who paved the way and opened the door for me and others to have a chance at success and equal opportunities. My culture is very rich with inventions, creativity, arts, music, food and much more.

Being an African American Woman allows me to explore my beauty and talents. I use self expression to make a statement. Beauty is huge deal in my culture, the way we dress, talk, interact, the movies we watch and the music we listen to is an intricate part of my culture. As a member of the African American culture we love to express ourselves with the latest fashion, slang talk. hairstyle, technology, etc. Talent is our strong point, most of us earn a living from things we do well like fixing hair, creating clothing, designing, singing, performing etc. Since the pandemic alot of us have started our own business and have become more focused on our talents.

Celebrating is something we love to do, we work hard and play harder. We love family gatherings, and family reunions. Family and friends are very important to us, we were taught to respect each other and most definitely our elders. To this day I enjoy family gatherings, celebrating birthdays and anniversaries.

Going to church is another big thing we like to do in my culture. I remember when I was a child my family and I went to church every Sunday. I Participated in the choir and youth programs. Going to church prepared me for college and the real world. I’ve learned alot about leadership, confidence, and self control from going to church. My first Lady at the time modeled how to be a good wife, and a leader. Must I add she loved to shop. I definitely took a few pages from her book.

My culture is always reinventing themselves. African Americans endured alot but we contributed alot to society as well. No matter what nationality you are we all have gained and benefiitted from one another.
