South Carolina Finest.. If They Made It So Can We
Hello all, I was born in South Carolina, and I still reside in the Palmetto state. I can ensure you that a lot of greatness comes from our South Carolina. To tell you a little more about my state, our capital, and Charleston is the largest city in the state. South Carolians favorite fruit is a peach, our favorite snack is boiled peanuts, and our favorite vegetable is collard greens.
Some of the celebrities that you see on television or hear on the radio was born or grew up in South Carolina. I have to give credit and special shout outs to the people who made a nane for themselves, I know it has not been easy .These are a few but not all of the celebrities that are from South Carolina that branched off into the world to become great entertainers, musicians, sports figures, actors, politicians, etc.
Ronald E. McNair- Ronald E.McNair was an American NASA astronaut and physicist, he died during the launch of the space shuttle challenge on mission STS-51-L he was born on October 21, 1950 in Lake City, South Carolina. He died on January 28th in 1986 in Cape Canaveral, Florida.
2.Angie Stone is an American Singer, songwriter,actress and record producer, she was born in Columbia, South Carolina.
3. Joe Frazier was an American professional boxer who competed from 1965 to 1981. He reigned as the undisputed heavyweight champion from 1970 to 1973. Joe Frazier was born in Beaufort South Carolina.
4. Chris Rock is an American comedian, actor, writer,producer and director born on February 7, 1965 in Andrews South Carolina.
5. Ja Morant is an American Professional Basketball player for the Memphis Grizzles of the NBA. He is from Dalzell, South Carolina.
6. Zion Williamson is an American Professional Basketball Player for the New Orleans Pelicans. He went to highschool in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
7. The late Chad Boseman is an American Actor from Anderson SouthCarolina. He is known for his role in James Brown, Jackie Robinson, Black Panther, Avengers, and Infinity War.
8. Drizzy Gillespie is a trumpet player he was born in 1917 in Cheraw South Carolina.
9.Althea Gibson is the first AfricanAmerican woman to win Wilbledon she was born in Clarendon County.
10. Mary McLeod Bethune was born in Mayesville. South Carolina on July 10,1875. She was an American educator. stateswoman,philanthropist humanitarian, wommanist, and civil rights, and activist. She died May 18,1955.
11. Jesse Jackson was born in 1941 in Greenville, South Carolina. He founded the organization Operation Push. He became the most visible and sought after civil rights leader in the country..
12. Vanna White was born in 1957 in Conway, South Carolina. She is an an American television personality and film actress, she is known as the hostess of Wheel of Fortune.
In addition to all these great South Carolinians I had the pleasure of speaking to two young men that are very influential in our state. They are from Charleston, South Carolina . Charleston is a known its plantations, the slave trade, the civil war, and few beautiful beaches. To this day Charleston serves as a tourist spot. The two men from Charleston, South Carolina I had a pleasure of interviewing are Ivan Jenkins and Justin Beaufort. They work as a team to help the youth in their community to stay in school, get good grades and to graduate high-school to become successful.
Ivan Jenkins is the program director for the Low Country Elites travel Basketball Team and he is the head 5th and 6th grade coach. He is affiliated with Brighter Future Foundation. He stated that through this organization he help children in his community finish highschool and become successful.
Justin Beaufort is founder and author of Be Ya Self, and JB Highstar Ent. He hosts events in the Charleston area such as travel Basketball, highschool rivalry basketball games within Charleston community, HBCU college basketball games, Mother and Son Dance, Father Daughter Dance, and a host of events.The City of Charleston granted him A Be Ya Self Day where families in the community together for fun and games.
