Weekend In Mississippi

Hello, I will be sharing with you some highlights from my trip to Vicksburg, Mississippi. Before I begin I will like to thank Ronnie and Meagan Jones for their excellent hospitality. They are amazing and they made this trip worthwhile. My two days that my family and I spent in Mississippi was filled with lots of fun. Iā€™m a country girl that grew up in Kingstree, South Carolina, so I can relate to good Ole Mississippi. South Carolina to Mississippi is about a 10 hour trip one way. My husband and I stopped twice on the way. The first stop was in Atlanta, Georgia around 6:00 p.m to gas up, afterwards we went to McDonald's to grab something to eat. The second stop was close to Meridian, Mississippi, it was around 10:00 p.m.

We finally arrived to Ronnie and Meagan's home in Mississippi at 12:30 a.m which would be 1:30 a.m., South Carolina time. At this time. I was so thankful and ready to get some much needed rest because it was a long day of packing, getting the rental car and driving.

As you can see above, my husband and Ronnie were getting the hog prepped and ready to put on the fire pit, which Ronnie started the fire around 7:00 a.m that morning. The dress code and theme for the birthday party was army fatigue, which was fitting for the occasion because it was an outdoor event and Ronnie likes fishing, camping, hunting, etc.

Fire Pit For The Hog

The hog is being prepped for the pit. The hog was rubbed down with Mustard Rub with varieties of other dry rubs. The hog was stuffed with bell peppers and onions for addiitional flavor. I must tell you that the finished product was delicious.

The hog is wrapped and ready to be smoked.

The birthday dishes were beyond yummy, a few of the dishes were fried chicken, the smoked hog, macaroni, seafoodgumbo, the pot ( different types of wild game cooked together in a pot), Velveeta Cheese Dip, Corn, peach and blueberry cobbler, and of course the oreo ice cream birthday cake.

Not only did we ate good, we had a great time as well. Earlier that day, Ronnie took us on a ride in the woods and in the neighborhood on his golf cart and that night he took the children and the adults on a hayride. The children had glow sticks, which I thought was cool. My 6 year old really enjoyed both the golf cart and the hayride.

Around 10:00 my daughter and I was exhausted, so we went inside to prepare for bed and to get ready for our drive back the next day. The next morning, we all had breakfast, the children played for a little bit and we left to travel back to South Carolina around 1:00 p.m. Ronnie recommended that we stop at Buccee's in Birmingham Alabama. I drove from Mississippi to Birmingham, Alabama which took almost 5 hours. We arrived at Buccee's around 6 p.m. Buccee's has over 200 gas pumps. As you walk inside the store, the excitement hit you. There are lots of souvenirs, self care, home decor, candles, bath and body, clothing, purses, cups and mugs for the entire family just to name a few. There were a few restaurants in which you could order your meal to your liking. Also there were cold and hot meals already prepared for you to grab and go, if you didn't want to wait in line. Not to mention, there was baked goods, pralines and sweets to choose from. My husband and I spent a total of over $100 at Buccee's.

After we fueled up, explore and shop.at Buccee's , it was time to hit the road. We arrived home at midnight. When I arrived home I thanked God for a safe and fun trip. All in all this was one of the best experiences I had all year. It was long overdue for my family and I to take a road trip. Exploring, sightseeing and reconnecting with friends was the reset that I needed.
