Not All Wounds Are Visible: Mental Health Awareness

Hi guys, I wanted to stop by and shed some light on Mental Illness, this is a topic people shy away from but it's a conversation that we must have. Mental illness has affected people we love and care about. We know that it is real. Mental health can take the best of someone if they don't get the proper health and treatment they need before they spiral. According to psychiatry.org mental illness are health conditions that involves changes in one's thinking,emotions or behavior.

What causes mental illness? According to the CDC the causes are:

  • Trauma

  • History of Abuse

  • Witnesses

  • Violence

  • Biological factors such as chemical imbalances in the brain

  • Use of alcohol or recreational drugs,or recreational drugs

  • Having feelings of loneliness or isolation

Taking care of our mental health is important because it is linked to our overall health. Everthing starts with the mind, if there are issues going on with one's brain, this can affect how a person reacts, make decisions and move foward in their daily plans. According to the CDC mental illness increase the risk of many types of physical health problems such as: stroke, type 2 diabetes,and heart disease. The prescense of chronic conditions can increase the risk for mental illness.
