Day of Peace, Day of Service

In the United States, Martin Luther King Day is observed January 16th. The Holiday honors the legacy of King. MLK Day focus on Civil Rights Issues and recognizes the use of non violence to promote change and calls for public of service.

Who Was Martin Luther King J?

Martin Luther King Jr was a Baptist Minister of the American Civil Rights Movement in the 1950s and 1960s. He won the Nobel Prize for Peace. In 1964 he was the youngest person to receive the award.

What was Martin Luther King Famous For?

In 1957 he founded the Southern Christian Leadersip Conference.

In 1955 he came to national prominence during a bus boycott by African Americans in Montgomery Alabama.

In 1963 he led the March on Washington

In 1965 he was instrumental in the Voting Rights Act of 1965

In 1964 he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964.

April 4,, 1968 he was assassinated.
