Celebrating A Legend
I had the honor of attending The Celebration Of Life of Angie Stone. Angie Stone was borned Angela Laverne Brown on December 18, 1961 in Columbia S.C. Angie Stone 2nd Homegoing Services was held at First Nazareth Baptist Church, Columbia,South Carolina on March 15th, 2025.
The morning of the memorial service I woke up at 7 a.m. to allow myself time to get ready and to drive 45 minutes to the celebration. I wanted to be in Columbia, S.C at 10 a.m. I wanted to beat the long lines and parking issues. I was proud of myself with my time management and I was pleased that I was somewhat in the middle of the line at First Nazareth Baptist Church.I stood in line for two hours before they started letting people in First Nazareth Baptist Church for the viewing of Angie Stone's body.
While I was standing in line waiting to get into the church, I saw Anthony Hamilton and his entourage get out of their Mercedes SUV. Fellow fans were screaming, taking out their phones and recording. Also I saw “Blondy” who's real name is Gwendolyn Chisolm from the group The Sequence. Other group members include Cheryl Cook Known As “ Cheryl The Pearl” And Lead Singer and rapper Angie Stone which was known as “ Angie B”. They were all highschool friends.
At 12:00 the line began to move as the doors of the First Nazareth Baptist Church opened. As you entered into the church, you see the beautiful Angie Stone backdrop with lit candles and flowers surrounding the backdrop. The foyer area was surreal. I was trying to negate fear as i was walking in the line towards the casket. As I approached the casket I saw how amazing her corpse looked. She had on a pair of silver sequin pants, matching silver sequin heels and a white blouse. Angie Stone's makeup and hair was beautifully done. Her manicure was immaculate with diamonds and sparkles. She looked like she was asleep with a smile on her face. The casket was silver with a built in glass that covered Angie Stone's body.
The family arrived at First Nazareth Baptist Church at 1:30 to do the final viewing before they closed the casket. It was kind of hard to see Angie Stone's children close her casket. The services began at 2 p.m. Dr. Blakely N. Scott the pastor of First Nazareth Baptist Church gave the opening remarks.

The Celebration of Life Services ended around 6 p.m. I enjoyed the Celebration, It felt like being back home with friendly faces. It was good to see people dress up, come together and be on their best behavior. No one felt like a stranger or isolated. The ushers were helpful, the services started on time and the officiant followed and abided by the program. Also there were no pictures or recordings allowed in the service due to respect of the family. Rest In Peace To A Legend and My Fellow South Carolinian🤍🕊💙
