Mindfulness Activities

You may ask what is mindfulness? Mindfulness is when you focus on being intensely aware and feeling in the moment without interpretation or judgment. Ask yourself do you really enjoy the moment you're in? When was the last time you enjoyed watching the waves or sitting on your balcony or porch to watch the sunset or sunrise without looking in your phone, or thinking about other stuff? I think we all can benefit in some type of mindfulness activity to help relieve tension or stress or just to unwind. These are a few mindfulness activities that I like to do that help me to stay in tuned with myself and enjoy  the moment at the same time.  Feel free to try any of these activities at your leisure.

Single Tasking: focus on one task at a time. If you are baking do just that, put all the other distractions aside and use your five senses to indulge in the moment. You will begin to enjoy the task better and execute your best skills at hand.

Mindful Eating- Try going to a nice ambience where you can enjoy the atmosphere and your meal simultaneously. Pay attention to the aroma of your meal, the colors of your dish, and the food, also you can enjoy the music that is playing in the background.

Take a walk or enjoy a nice scenery. Take in nature, and the fresh air. Examine the trees, water, animals, rocks or anything else that is around you. Nature is a gift all in itself because it helps to relax you and change your mood.

Music Appreciation-Listen to your favorite radio station or songs from your playlist. Take time to listen to the words in tbe song. Go to your favorite place whether it’s your car or a particular room in the house and jam. Listening to  my favorite songs makes me happy and it motivates me to do certain task. Never underestimate the power of music.

Doing puzzles or word finds help you to sharpen your brain muscles and it allows you to focus and pay attention to detail. Puzzles are fun to do and it allows you to focus on one single task at a time. I Iike to use a timer when I do word finds just to see how quickly I can find a word. In closing, these were just a few mindful activities to help you to enjoy the moment and to abstain to help keep your mind on the now. Sometimes we can miss out on good things and what is going on at the present moment if we allow our minds to wander. Hopefully these tips were helpful, and you can begin to indulge in self care.
